Lately, I’ve been on a bondage kick. I’ve been on a goth kick—even more than usual. I’ve been loving everything with a dark touch, whether it’s the taxidermied bird wings I’ll be hanging up in my new apartment*, the bondage-inspired goodies up on Baby Likes to Pony (one of my newest favorite online lingerie lifestyle boutiques) or PENDV‘s incredibly cool editorials and harness designs.
Whenever my aesthetic shifts, it gives me an opportunity to look within and ask why. As counterintuitive as it seems, I think this time it’s coming from a need to feel safe. There’s a lot of transition happening in life. I recently transitioned full time into a new role at work, I’m moving apartments and my partner just started a new job. Things are great, but moving forward and taking responsibility can be terribly frightening.
Another source of scary: it’s time to focus more energy on the blog. It’s time to go big or go home. You mighty fine readers have been demanding it, as have a lot of brands, media outlets and fellow bloggers. I have had this desire trapped within for a long time, and you all have confirmed it . I’ve been involved in some pretty cool projects starting this week and into the fall that I cannot wait to share with you, and that have inspired me to really fill the void of writing and blogging about lingerie as a lifestyle.
I think I mentioned this a while back, but here’s the first step in the right direction: the blog is getting a whole new look come the first week of September! I’ve been working hard with Eimy, my wonderful, patient and incredibly talented designer to make that je ne sais quoi your go-to space for empowerment and inspiration through lingerie and boudoir dressing. It’s amazing and terrifying and so exciting all at once. I know Caro can relate.
Back to the bondage… one my amazing readers, Avigayil, mentioned that it makes her feel secure—I had never put two and two together until I read it in her comment on my post in defense of bondage and leather, it makes perfect sense. This piece is actually just a pair of briefs with “braces” attached that my wonderful friend (and #styletwin) Sarah from StyleOnTheCouch purchased on my behalf. They do just the trick.
