Since moving to New York City and acquiring the BF, I’ve made it a point not to go out on Valentine’s Day. Most restaurant menus are prix fixe, there are too many hearts and teddy bears just around for my liking and you’ll be battling with lots of women who really do make dinners on V-Day a priority, which is not a fun sport. Personally, I much prefer to buy a special bottle of wine or champagne and cook together—it’s a much more intimate experience and if you’re as lucky as I am, it’s more delicious each passing year.
One of the things that really gets me about Valentine’s Day is that anyone marketing it assumes that everyone has a significant other: so not true! Have you ever been single on Valentine’s Day? I have, and it’s kind of a bummer. This is why my Valentine’s Day Guide encompasses more than just a romantic night with your lover—there’s something for everyone.
With your friends: Play Cards Against Humanity
This game is hilariously offensive so if you have a must-be-PC-thing it is not for you. However, even some of my most soft-spoken friends have truly rolled on the floor with laughter while playing this game. I recommend you pair with champagne, macaroons and some cute, feel good-lingerie inspired pieces.

On your own: Curl Up With Wine and a Good Book
If you’re a devoted reader, you’ve probably heard this already so my apologies. But for anyone who doesn’t know how much I love Steve Martin as a writer, let it be known. This book is about a girl trying to climb her way up the ladder in both her career in the art world and in Manhattan’s society scene. I know, kind of cliche, but who isn’t a sucker for well-written chick lit?

With Your Lover: Make a Masterpiece
I’m not going to say much about this one, except this: your night will be interesting and you’ll have something to remember it by. I’ve included some optional fancies—but what you really need is “Love Is Art.”

That Stella McCartney bra with the velvet flocking is gorgeous! Definitely going on my wishlist.
I can’t wait until I have a real job and can buy that leather feather necklace, I adore it. Til then, I have every intention of curling up with a book and some wine on V-day. And you know what…I’m so looking forward to it.
WOW I love the Love is Art set, what a cool idea!!
