New York is quickly approaching winter as both the leaves and the temperatures fall. This weekend was a metaphor for the sudden seasonal change: Friday and Saturday were warm, but a sharp drop on Sunday left me wondering whether winter wasn’t just around the corner.
Of course, sartorially this means that the days of mini skirts and shorts are numbered. I, for one, prefer the other three seasons to the upcoming snowy one and will do everything in my power to keep it from coming. Thus far my powers have proven to be utterly futile so if any of you are friends with The Weather Man, a good word on my behalf would be greatly appreciated.
Knowing that Saturday was one of the city’s last Indian Summer days, I had to break out this number. I actually think that this is one of the most under-worn pieces in my wardrobe. It was a gift from my mother* circa 2010 and for whatever reason I think of it as an occasion piece… but really, sequins for daytime have become commonplace and there’s no reason not to wear this more.
On the other hand, this garter top has been getting tons of wear lately. The material is sumptuous and flattering, perfect for wearing out or as part of a lounge ensemble. I feel like an off-duty ballerina whenever I wear the garters with thigh highs – something about the combination is elegant and beautiful, but with dark overtones. Perhaps it’s the corset-esque silhouette with paneling, the monochrome black or the keyhole in the back set with a subtle black satin bow… whatever it is, it’s got a good girl gone bad feel I adore.
Do you have any garter tops you like to wear? Or any favorite garters in general? Do tell.
*thanks Mom.
Skirt: J.Crew (similar here) / Sandals: Nine West / Top: Kriss Soonik / Leather Jacket: Zara (old, similar here)

I love the skirt! Very understated and classic as sequins go. And I’ve been lusting after than Kriss Soonik top myself. I have the turtleneck one, but I feel like one is not enough
.
There really is no reason why sequins shouldn’t be worn more during the day. You have inspired me to break out a sequin military jacket that was banished to the back of my closet…..and well played by your mother!
Very nice!
Ever since you introduced me to Kriss Soonik I have been lusting after one of these pieces. I like the idea that the suspender part is attached first and foremost, and it gives a great line that might otherwise be broken up with the bra / briefs / belt trio. As for you making it work with sparkles well I totally agree with Lani more sparkles in the day please. A little off duty ballerina I agree, but absolutely your own style too Lindsay!
