Is it safe to say that most people have more than one sartorial personality? My outerwear style is grounded in simple, monochrome silhouettes, but I tend toward two different ways of dress: tough and feminine. My goal lately has been to integrate both—more of a melting together of the two styles than using distinct elements from each—and the resulting hybrid is usually quite satisfactory. But sometimes I find that certain outfits just lean more toward one than the other, this being a prime example. In this instance, I like the end product as it still feels authentic. I don’t think I’ll ever shake my obsession with all things black, studded and punky, which may sound bizarre but it’s deeply ingrained (I was a total punk rocker in high school… and now my secret is out!). While I don’t always incorporate these edgy elements into my every day style and do so even less on the blog, it comes across on my tumblr. I often use images like this as inspiration for almost all of my outfits and will always be drawn to anything with an edge.
The dress itself is a cotton jersey material but is quite shapeless other than the plunging back, my favorite feature. It’s perfect for showing off your favorite brassieres and this Bordelle piece is one I love to expose. The pumped up kicks and leather jacket definitely direct the dress and bra into Brooklyn Babe territory, one I don’t mind championing every now and again.
Do you have more than one personal style? A hybrid? Do tell.
